Shane Harrison manages Paragon Electronic Design along with sales, project management and receptionist duties. He has a passion for everything electronic and decided when he was 14 that he wanted to be an electronics engineer. When not training in taekwondo, windsurfing or putting children to bed, you can find him enhancing his personal home automation system that controls his house.
An engineering degree in 1986 (BE Hons) coupled with subsequent hardware and software development experience has provided a firm foundation for him to grow his management skills.
Shane's favourites are:
Book: Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
Food: cheesecake (baked of course)
Song: Eagle and the Hawk by John Denver
With several years of preceding work experience in the electronics industry, Hayden graduated from Canterbury University with a B.E.(Hons) in 2006. Since finishing his degree and continuing his engineering career, he has come to love the variety and breadth of scope from working in two well-known and respected electronics design consultancies.
With his own interests lying in both the hardware and software arenas, Hayden has been involved in all aspects of the product design process. In particular, he has worked on an array of projects, ranging from embedded sensing and datalogging applications, to the design of DSP-based acoustic measurement equipment for structural grade timber.
Formally a software engineer at Paragon, but enjoying the ability to regularly “get his hands dirty” with the hardware, Hayden has significant experience in a variety of design packages, including Xilinx ISE & Altium Designer. In addition, he is skilled in a range of languages including: C/C++, Java, Matlab, assembler and VHDL.
Kevin's dual role in software engineering and business development has him working on projects and with Paragon's products and services. He codes for web, mobile devices and databases. He is just as passionate about technology and he is for its application in the real world. Between work and the summit of Ruapehu he can be found on a snowboard, bike or boardgame, all weather dependant.
Completing BSc and BCA degrees with majors in Computer Science, Management and Marketing in 2006, Kevin went on to work for a ICT company doing marketing and sales with global focus. He then joined Paragon to work on the TotalSense business and now takes on increasingly diverse software projects.
Kevin's favourites are:
Comedian: Bill Bailey
Food: Everything, especially with a good stout
Website: Stack Exchange
Andrew followed an early interest in electronic hardware design with Bsc(Hons) and BE(Hons) degrees from Massey and Auckland respectively, before starting a career in CTV with Philips New Zealand in 1982. Since then he has gained familiarity with a broad range of technologies in the embedded hardware arena. With a comprehensive knowledge of standards and processes including PCB layout, DFM/DFT, EMC compliance and manufacturing processes, Andrew also has wide experience in a range of engineering design tools and a DIYer's mechanical aptitude.
Ben provides customer support for the TotalSense range of products, including pre-sales, installation and post-sales support and implementation. He is also involved in manufacturing and/or ordering of TotalSense components and performs the final testing of new releases. Ben also manages the day-to-day requirements for information systems for the company as well.
The information systems are managed and maintained by a number of staff, of which Ben has the main role. This includes keeping all systems operational and looking after any requirements that may arise.
Ben graduated in 1982 with a HTS engineering diploma in The Hague, the Netherlands. He has since worked as a software/hardware engineer and system test manager at Philips in South Africa before he started working for Philips as support engineer on their wide range of PABX systems in New Zealand. In the mid 90s he started working in the information systems area and has continued till today on a wide variety of networks, including Novell NetWare, Microsoft and Linux based systems. In the last ten years he has been more and more involved with system tests of products, including writing test software (in Python).
Ben enjoys sport in general, and in particular volleyball and kayaking.
Richard is a project manager and senior software developer. He really enjoys working with customers to understand requirements and deliver solutions. He also doesn't mind doing some of the boring bits such as documentation and planning. While technology agnostic, he is currently developing RESTful web services in C# using WCF and SQL server. When not working or doing family stuff he enjoys tennis, tramping and football (more of a spectator, but plays the occasional 5-aside).
Educated in the UK with a BSC (hons), he started developing software in assembler for embedded system before moving onto real-time operating systems and then into management. He has delivered projects to a large number of international customers which has provided invaluable experience in developing management skills. Prior to moving to New Zealand, Richard was the VP of Software Development for a UK company.
Richard's favourites are:
Book:Bird Song, Sebastian Faulks
Food: Beef Wellington
Song: Shine on you Crazy Diamond, Pink Floyd
Raje works as an embedded developer at Paragon Electronics Design. She has a passion for real time embedded systems design and development. She holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Computer Science and she possesses good knowledge of Digital Video Broadcasting and Set Top Box environment.
Raje's hobbies include reading, cooking, travelling and watching cricket.
Raje's favourites are:
Sports Person: Dhoni, Captain, Indian Cricket Team
Food: Seafood
Place: Pondicherry (The French Riviera of the East)
Rory began developing telecommunications software after graduating with a BE from Auckland University in 1981. He joined Philips New Zealand and worked on call control software for their PBX product line. During the subsequent 13 years at Philips, Rory proved himself to be a very thorough, efficient and highly professional engineer. He was a key member of the Paragon Solutions software team from 1996 to 2000. The contract development environment provided Rory with a rich diversity of products and technologies from which he has developed a broad industry knowledge.
Rory is comfortable with all phases of software development, from requirements analysis, to high level system design, implementation and test specification. Rory is very strong in C and C++ in the embedded arena.
Owen is a software engineer working on mobile applications for iPhone and Android platforms.
Owen has 25 years experience in software engineering including microprocessor based telecom and network products, PC applications and iPhone apps. He is familiar with all aspects of the modern software development life cycle and has worked for many years as a contract engineer on large projects, mainly working remotely for companies located in the UK and USA.
Owen enjoys traveling, kicking a soccer ball with his kids and playing the guitar.
Darrin was introduced to computers at a young age - he started playing with his father's D2 (6800) system when 10 years old. Since then he has spent many work and non-work hours involved in a wide range of computer related projects. Darrin graduated with a BE (Hons) from Canterbury University in 1987, and with a post graduate diploma in computer science (DipCS) from Victoria University in 1993. In between he worked for Wellington Polytechnic and the spin off company Digicom Networks Ltd doing various special projects.
In 1995 Darrin joined Philips New Zealand as a software engineer. During his time at Philips and subsequently Paragon Solutions he has worked on a wide range of telecommunications products including analog and ISDN phones, xDSL cards, and various terminal (protocol) adapters. Darrin also wrote Paragon's custom "Taupo" kernel, the generic low level 68302 hardware support, and their ISDN layer 3 protocol stack. Recently he has been heavily involved in transaction processing over GPRS.
Darrin is very strong in C and C++ in the embedded area but also has significant experience in writing Windows applications.
