Case Study: Black Diamond Technologies

Digitally Recorded Interview Systems

Black Diamond Technologies Limited (BDT) has been designing and distributing Video Interview systems to NZ law enforcement agencies and other agencies around the world since 1993.

BDT approached Paragon to future-proof their interview system most commonly used in police interviews. The system digitally writes on the recorded media so both the interviewer and the interviewed parties cannot alter the recording and meet the legal requirements.

The challenge

Three DVD recorders were used in each interview system and they were reaching end of life, becoming increasingly expensive to repair and replace. BDT wanted to replace the DVD recording component while retaining the same control unit and functionality that had made the product successful.

The solution

Paragon developed Linux based software to emulate the three drives. The Linux based drive system tightly co-ordinates low-level DVD authoring, audio and video drivers and seamlessly integrates with the existing controller in a new, smaller and future-proofed interview system.

With Paragon's assistance, BDT have deployed the interview systems in New Zealand. BDT have provided new functionality with Paragon continuing their role with new product extensions and refinements.

“Thanks to Paragon our revamped Interview System is a great success. We highly recommend Paragon and look forward to working with them to develop our products further”
